DSWD starts SAP subsidy distribution to NCR families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has begun distributing emergency subsidies to low-income families in the National Capital Region (NCR) as part of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

In Pasay City, 161 members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) Federation were among the first to receive P8,000 in cash assistance.

Manila has seen 185,680 beneficiaries receive their P8,000 subsidy, while Parañaque City has distributed the same amount to 77,674 households.

The SAP provides monthly emergency subsidies ranging from P5,000 to P8,000 for two months, mandated by Republic Act No. 11469, also known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

The DSWD received P100 billion from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the Emergency Subsidy Program, intended for 18 million low-income households.

Beneficiaries include 4Ps recipients, informal economy workers, drivers, small entrepreneurs, and members of vulnerable sectors such as seniors, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women.

The DSWD assured that the assistance will be distributed in April and May, with the department having full control and supervision, possibly with the help of LGUs, PNP, and AFP.
