DSWD ready to aid Kanlaon eruption victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is prepared to distribute aid to families affected by the recent explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian confirmed that over 250,000 family food packs were prepositioned in warehouses in Western and Central Visayas prior to the eruption.

The agency has been providing bulk food supplies to local government units in affected regions since Kanlaon's previous eruption on December 9, 2024.

DSWD field offices are actively coordinating with local government units to get real-time updates on the needs of affected families.

The agency is ready to provide additional assistance and anticipates a potential increase in evacuees, with ample food packs available in nearby warehouses and nationwide, including over 2.5 million boxes of FFPs in other warehouses across the country.

Aside from family food packs, the DSWD also has PHP865,447,008 worth of non-food items such as kitchen kits, family kits, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and laminated sacks.
