DPWH Mimaropa execs plead not guilty to P289M anomalous project charges

Nine Department of Public Works and Highways-Mimaropa officials pleaded not guilty to malversation charges before the Sandiganbayan 6th Division concerning an alleged anomalous P289 million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.

Santos, OIC-chief of Planning and Design Division Montrexis Tamayo, construction division chief and Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) chairperson Dominic Serrano, OIC-chief of Quality Assurance and Hydrology Division and BAC regular member Dennis Abagon, Maintenance Division Chief Juliet Calvo, accountant IV Lerma Cayco, and project engineer III Felisardo Casuno.

Maintenance Division Chief Juliet Calvo also pleaded not guilty to graft charges and is currently in the custody of Camp Caringal.

All nine officials were physically present, handcuffed, and wearing yellow detainee uniforms during the arraignment.

The officials underwent a preventive administrative suspension for six months as ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman.

In a separate statement, the law firm representing several of the accused maintained that the project is serviceable.
