DPWH defers EDSA rehab to 2027

The rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) has been pushed back to 2027, with a targeted construction period of approximately six months.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan cited the rainy season and the upcoming 2026 ASEAN Summit as reasons for deferring the project.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has instructed the DPWH to explore new technologies and consider night-time roadworks to expedite construction and minimize lane closures.

The DPWH is mulling only doing roadworks at night to minimize disruption, a change from the previously considered "odd-even" traffic scheme which faced public backlash.

Bonoan anticipates completion within the current administration and within approximately six months.
