DPWH forms committee to probe bridge collapse

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has formed a five-member special committee to investigate the collapse of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Isabela, with its report expected by April 25.

DPWH Undersecretary Anne Sharlyne Lapuz is leading the investigation, with Undersecretary Eric Ayapana as co-chairperson.

The bridge collapsed on February 27 when a dump truck loaded with boulders crossed it, causing a section to collapse.

Initial DPWH statements suggested its weight limit was below the truck involved, but President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. suggested a design problem.

Malacañang stated that preventive suspensions are difficult if those involved are no longer in government.

A Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee is also probing the collapse.
