DOTr suspends NLEX toll collection after bridge crash

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered NLEX Corporation to suspend toll collection at the Marilao northbound segment after an overheight container truck crashed into the Marilao Interchange Bridge on Wednesday.

The incident resulted in one fatality and six injuries, including a two-year-old infant.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has instructed the DOTr and Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to ensure motorists and commuters are compensated for lost time and exhaustion due to traffic caused by the incident.

DOTr directed NLEX to provide assistance to the family of the deceased victim and the other injured passengers.

NLEX Corporation has been issued a show cause order requiring them to explain why sanctions should not be imposed, particularly regarding the lack of preventive measures given a similar accident occurred three months prior.

The suspension of toll collection will remain in effect until all four lanes of the Marilao Interchange Bridge are deemed passable.
