DOTr orders LTFRB to penalize ‘snobbish’ taxi, TNVS drivers
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is ordering the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to penalize taxi and Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers who frequently cancel passenger bookings, especially during the holiday season.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated that drivers citing traffic or long distances as reasons for cancellation will face sanctions, as directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Lopez emphasized that public utility vehicles (PUVs) are meant to serve passengers, and canceling bookings inconveniences commuters.
The DOTr also wants the LTFRB to investigate the legal basis for the surge pricing implemented by TNVS, with a public consultation set for December 10.
The LTFRB will create a hotline for the public to report erring and abusive drivers.
TNVS operators will be required to submit a list of drivers who frequently cancel to the LTFRB.
