DOTr expands free bus rides for medical frontliners nationwide

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has expanded its free bus ride program for medical frontliners nationwide.

The initiative, which began on March 18, now serves multiple regions beyond the National Capital Region (NCR) and will expand to cover areas outside Metro Manila starting Wednesday, April 15.

As of April 10, 2020, the program had provided rides to a total of 134,912 medical frontliners, with 97,589 availing the service outside of NCR.

The DOTr has increased the number of routes within NCR to 20, accessible via Google Maps.

Several private companies are supporting the program by offering fuel subsidies for the vehicles used.

Health workers using their own vehicles are exempt from toll fees on all expressways in Luzon during the enhanced community quarantine period.

The DOTr acknowledged the extensive support received from various government agencies and numerous private transportation companies for the successful implementation of this program.
