DOTr probes MRT-7, Skyway over flooding on Commonwealth Ave

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has directed MRT Line 7 contractors and Skyway management to address flooding issues along Commonwealth Avenue.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon instructed MRT-7 contractors to clear obstructions from drainage systems, as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) stated the MRT-7 Batasan Station construction may have worsened flooding by obstructing rainwater flow.

The MMDA noted that a major drainage system was partially blocked by a post and construction materials, reducing its functionality.

However, MRT-7 management, operated by San Miguel Corporation (SMC), has denied responsibility for the flooding.

SMC stated that MRT-7 structures were built outside of existing drainage lines and do not obstruct water flow, adhering to approved engineering plans.

SMC engineers inspected the area and found drainage outlets clogged with plastic waste and debris, not MRT-7 construction.
