DOLE forms ‘hatid-probinsiya,’ ‘balik-abroad’ task groups for OFWs, outbound workers
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has established two task groups to speed up the processing and transportation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
These task groups aim to expedite the movement of OFWs from quarantine facilities to their provinces and to facilitate the processing of outbound workers.
Additional personnel from DOLE regional offices and attached agencies have been assigned to support the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in managing land and air transport.
This initiative is in response to President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to send home all OFWs who have tested negative for COVID-19.
Approximately 24,000 OFWs have been housed in government quarantine facilities after their return to the Philippines.
A separate task group has been created to streamline the processing of land and sea-based workers bound for destinations that have lifted employment restrictions for foreign workers.
