DOJ forms SITN to probe killing of ex-Kalibo Mayor Dayang

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formed a Special Investigation Team on New Cases (SITN) to probe the killing of former Kalibo Mayor and journalist Juan "Johnny" Dayang.

The SITN is tasked with leading and supervising the fact-finding process, gathering evidence, and filing appropriate charges.

Two prosecutors have been designated by the Secretary of Justice to head the SITN, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 01, s. 2016.

The team will include investigators from the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and other relevant agencies.

The SITN is directed to submit regular progress reports to the DOJ until the case is fully resolved.

Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr. of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) is coordinating with the investigation.

Juan Dayang was shot dead at his residence in Bgy. Andagao, Kalibo on April 29, 2025.
