The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public and local government units to intensify mosquito control efforts to prevent a potential rise in dengue cases.
A total of 62,313 dengue cases have been recorded from January 1 to March 1, 2025, a 73 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
CALABARZON leads with the highest number of cases, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) and Central Luzon.
The DOH reported a lower case fatality rate this year at 0.35 percent compared to 0.42 percent in 2024.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa expects dengue cases to peak in July, noting that an increase in cases occurs every three to five years due to different serotypes of the virus.
He also mentioned that the Philippines is due for a dengue outbreak this year, as the last one was in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
While dengue is endemic and can spread anytime, climate change exacerbates its transmission, and the hot, dry season is conducive to vector reproduction.
