DOH records 7% drop in dengue cases but total remains high

The Department of Health (DOH) announced a 7% decrease in dengue cases over the past two weeks, with 14,460 recorded from January 26 to February 8.

Despite this recent drop, the total number of dengue cases from January 1 to February 22, 2025, is still 64% higher than in the same period last year, reaching 52,008.

The regions with the highest number of dengue cases are Calabarzon, the National Capital Region, and Central Luzon.

The DOH noted that the dengue case fatality rate has decreased to 0.36% this year, down from 0.43% last year, possibly due to earlier diagnosis and quicker patient response.

With 56% of the total cases involving children aged 14 and below, the DOH is urging parents and guardians to take preventative measures like using long sleeves, insect repellents, and mosquito nets, and avoiding mosquito-prone areas.
