DOH reports 261 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 261 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, bringing the country's total tally to 2,837,784.

Of the new cases, 95% occurred within 14 days prior to the reporting date, with most cases originating from Metro Manila, followed by Calabarzon and Central Luzon.

The total active COVID-19 cases in the country are now 9,238, representing 0.3 percent of the total confirmed cases.

Of the active infections, 507 are asymptomatic, 3,153 are mild, 3,400 are moderate, 1,801 are severe, and 377 are critical.

There were 395 new recoveries and 122 additional deaths, increasing the death toll to 50,916.

The majority of the reported deaths occurred in October and September 2021.
