DOH logs 235 firework injuries, a 42% decrease from last year

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 235 firework-related injuries nationwide from December 21, 2025, to January 1, 2026, a 42% decrease from the 403 cases logged during the same period last year.

Of the total cases, 62 were recorded on New Year's Eve, December 31.

Individuals aged 19 and below accounted for 161 of the reported injuries.

The most common causes of injuries included unknown firecrackers, 'boga,' and '5-Star'.

DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo stated that the department anticipates receiving final reports on firework-related injuries within the first week of the year, with monitoring continuing until January 5.

Domingo urged the public to seek immediate medical attention for any firework-related injuries, no matter how minor, to prevent potential complications like tetanus, emphasizing that symptoms can manifest days later and vaccination is available.
