DOH: COVAX vaccines for PH 20% partly free

The Department of Health (DOH) clarified that while the COVAX facility will provide COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of the Philippine population, only 15% of these doses will be free, with the government covering the cost for the remaining 5%.

The DOH assured the public that the budget for the additional 5% has already been secured, and this change in financing will not cause any delays in vaccine delivery.

Previously, the entire 20% allocation from COVAX was expected to be provided free of charge.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire previously stated that the Philippines is guaranteed a vaccine supply for 20% of its population through COVAX, amounting to approximately 22 million people.

The initial distribution will prioritize healthcare workers, with the rest of the population receiving vaccines in the second and third quarters of the year.
