DOH says sorry to Cebuanos for confusion over address of UK COVID-19 variant case
The Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 has clarified that the Liloan resident who tested positive for the UK variant of COVID-19 underwent testing in Manila, not Cebu.
The 35-year-old individual, who is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), left Cebu in November 2020 and has not returned since.
The positive test result for SARS-CoV-2 was obtained from a private laboratory in Manila on January 17, 2021, as a requirement for his work travel.
The subsequent genomic sequencing for the UK variant was conducted, with the positive result for the variant released on February 5, 2021.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire apologized to the province of Cebu for any panic caused by the initial reporting.
Vergeire explained that the DOH reports cases based on the address provided in the case investigation form.
