DOH aims to clear COVID-19 testing backlog by Thursday night

The Department of Health (DOH) is aiming to clear its coronavirus testing backlogs by Thursday night, May 28.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that they had almost 12,000 backlogs two weeks ago, which gradually decreased to 7,000 on Monday, and further down to 5,000 plus.

As of Thursday, laboratories were able to decrease the backlog to 3,683 unvalidated tests.

Laboratories were instructed by the Office of the President to reduce the backlogs in two to three days.

The DOH continues to provide technical assistance to help laboratories reach their full capacities.

The DOH is also validating approximately 7,000 reported COVID-19 cases that have not yet been included in the official tally.
