Dizon to fast-track transport projects via privatization

Newly appointed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon vowed to ensure the continuity and acceleration of ongoing transportation projects, emphasizing the crucial role of privatization and public-private partnerships (PPP) in enhancing efficiency.

He stated that the privatization of transport projects is critical and the way to go for more efficient transport services, a sentiment echoed by the President.

The feasibility study for the operations and maintenance of the EDSA Busway is expected to be completed in the next few months, with the project expected to be awarded by 2026.

Terms of reference for the planned bidding of the operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) are now being finalized.

Key projects previously mentioned, including the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), Metro Manila Subway, and regional airport privatization, will push through.

Dizon cited the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) rehabilitation under the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. as an example of successful privatization, noting improvements in passenger capacity and aircraft movement.
