Diocese of Kalookan denounces fake senatorial endorsement letter

The Diocese of Kalookan, through Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David's office, has declared a circulating letter endorsing senatorial candidates as fake.

The fake letter, which used the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) letterhead and bore Cardinal David's signature, falsely claimed an endorsement from him and the CBCP.

Cardinal David's office and the CBCP secretary general, Msgr. Bernardo Pantin, explicitly stated that neither they nor the CBCP are endorsing any political candidates for the upcoming May 12 elections.

The purported endorsement letter listed senators Ronald Dela Rosa, Bong Go, Rodante Marcoleta, Raul Lambino, Philip Salvador, Willy Revillame, Imee Marcos, Vic Rodriguez, Camille Villar, Jimmy Bondoc, Manny Pacquiao, and Bam Aquino.

Msgr. Pantin urged the public to exercise discernment and stated that the Church offers guidelines for informed choices rather than endorsing specific candidates.

The fake endorsement letter was not found on the official CBCP website or its news service, CBCP News.

The diocese is urging the public to verify information before sharing to combat the spread of disinformation.
