Cebu Archdiocese denies endorsing political candidates

The Archdiocese of Cebu has officially denied that Archbishop Jose Palma is endorsing any political candidate for Eleksyon 2025.

This statement was issued in response to posters circulating that featured the Archbishop's photo alongside dismissed Cebu City mayor Michael Rama, with the caption 'Thank you, Arch. Jose Palma.'

The Archdiocese has demanded the immediate removal of these unauthorized posters.

They emphasized that Archbishop Palma has not endorsed any candidate, locally or nationally, nor has he permitted any priest to use the pulpit for political promotion.

The Archdiocese highlighted that the use of the Archbishop's image without consent may violate the Data Privacy Act.

Furthermore, they warned that such posters could lead to sanctions under the Omnibus Election Code, as they are intended to influence voters and could be considered coercion.
