DILG orders LGUs to inspect establishments post-permit to curb illegal Pogos

Interior Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla has directed local government units (LGUs) to conduct inspections of establishments even after issuing occupancy permits to prevent illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogos) from disguising their operations as resorts and restaurants.

This directive comes as some illegal Pogo hubs are reportedly attempting to evade detection by posing as legitimate businesses.

Remulla emphasized the need for mayors to verify that the intended use of establishments matches what is actually happening on the premises, especially after granting occupancy permits.

He cited a specific incident in Lapu-Lapu City where an illegal Pogo hub disguised as a hotel, restaurant, and KTV was successfully raided, describing their operations as "guerrilla" tactics.

The DILG is studying the accountability of LGUs that issued permits to these establishments.

Remulla also stated that they will inspect around a hundred entities licensed by PAGCOR from December 15 up to December 31 to ensure their closure and to track down illegal operations.
