DILG urges LGUs to expedite social aid distribution

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is urging local government units (LGUs) and barangays to expedite the distribution of Social Amelioration Cards (SAC) and create a master list of beneficiaries.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año emphasized the urgency of reaching those affected by the pandemic, particularly the poor who are mandated to stay at home, to address their immediate needs.

He reiterated that no LGU or barangay can limit beneficiaries to registered voters only, and voter's ID is not a requisite for inclusion in the list.

"Epal" signages or appendages crediting any local government official or bearing his name or image are also banned.

The government aims to provide assistance promptly as the ongoing health emergency has led to a standstill in the economy, causing widespread unemployment and loss of livelihood.

Under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, approximately 18 million low-income families nationwide will receive a monthly subsidy, comprising food items and cash, ranging from PHP5,000 to PHP8,000, depending on the regional minimum wage.

Año explained that the fast distribution by the barangays of the SAC form to poor families will be key in preparing a master list of qualified beneficiaries.

Strict observance of home quarantine, physical distancing, and prohibition of mass gatherings must be exercised in distributing the SAC forms and assistance.
