DILG says unvaccinated mostly staying home

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año stated that unvaccinated individuals have been complying with the order to stay indoors during the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Law enforcers and barangay captains are establishing checkpoints to restrict the mobility of the unvaccinated, although Año clarified that those found outside will be sent home and not arrested, provided they comply.

President Duterte previously ordered barangay officials to direct unvaccinated persons to stay home and to arrest them if they refused to cooperate.

However, the Commission on Human Rights raised concerns that arresting unvaccinated individuals might be illegal and violate human rights.

While there were fewer instances of mass gatherings and violations of physical distancing, more individuals were caught not wearing face masks.
