DILG, NDRRMC urge preemptive evacuations as Typhoon Rolly intensifies

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año urged local government units (LGUs) to conduct preemptive evacuations, especially in low-lying areas along the eastern seaboard, emphasizing that safety is paramount.

He highlighted that while properties can be repaired, lives lost cannot be revived.

Año also stressed the importance of having relief goods prepositioned and ensuring local chief executives are present to lead their constituents during the calamity.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Rolly is intensifying and moving towards the Aurora-Quezon area, with potential landfall expected on Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad advised residents to evacuate immediately and fix their roofings ahead of the typhoon's landfall, comparing Rolly's strength to Typhoon Tisoy, which caused significant damage and casualties.

Jalad stated that early evacuation, as per Oplan Listo, is encouraged for the safety of residents.

Año assured LGUs that the DPWH has constructed separate evacuation centers and quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients.
