DICT lauds Meta's faster fake news takedowns but wants better context review

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has praised Meta for improved response times in removing election-related fake news, with some takedowns occurring within an hour.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda expressed satisfaction with Meta's quicker actions, which align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to secure the Philippines' cyberspace.

However, the DICT's Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) remains dissatisfied with Meta's "context-based" review process, citing delays in acting on false information.

Aguda emphasized that the DICT and CICC will continue to monitor Meta's efforts and expect a proactive stance against harmful content beyond election day.

The DICT previously met with a Meta representative on May 2, 2025, to discuss stronger enforcement and improved response timelines for Meta platforms.
