DFA repatriates 139 Filipinos from Myanmar

A total of 139 Filipinos have been repatriated from Myanmar by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on February 15 due to the prevailing political situation and COVID-19 related contract issues.

Among the repatriated were 11 dependent children and four dependent parents, including two senior citizens, whose contracts were affected by the situation.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. welcomed the repatriates at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, emphasizing the government's commitment to assisting Filipinos abroad.

This repatriation was facilitated by a special Air Asia flight chartered by the Philippine government.

This marks the second DFA-chartered flight from Yangon, with the DFA having facilitated 12 other special flights.

A total of 509 overseas Filipinos from Myanmar have been repatriated via DFA-chartered flights since March 2020.
