DepEd to hire 140,000 teachers next year

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara confirmed that around 140,000 positions will be available for public school teachers next year through the expanded career progression program.

This initiative aligns with President Marcos's directive to prioritize teacher welfare and was recently bolstered by the ceremonial signing of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Executive Order (EO) No. 174 series of 2022.

The expanded system, approved in principle by President Marcos, aims to accelerate teachers' career growth by providing ample opportunities for professional development and advancement.

It introduces two distinct career paths: a teaching track and a school administration track, catering to varied teacher aptitudes and aspirations.

President Marcos vowed in his 3rd State of the Nation Address that teachers would no longer retire as Teacher I, emphasizing the new growth opportunities.

Funding has been allocated to support this initiative, which is part of the administration's strategy to enhance the quality of education nationwide.
