Davao City may return to GCQ due to rising COVID-19 cases

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte announced that the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is considering reverting the city to general community quarantine (GCQ) starting July 15 due to rising COVID-19 cases.

The local government plans to appeal this decision, citing available remedies for LGUs if they can provide the necessary data to the IATF.

Mayor Duterte believes the IATF's potential move is a response to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections and the reported non-compliance of some residents with health protocols.

She emphasized that individual actions have a significant impact on the entire city's health situation.

As of the latest data from the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Davao City has recorded 162 active COVID-19 cases, its highest since March, with 38 recoveries and 35 deaths.

The mayor also noted an increasing rate of positive cases in the past four days, attributing it to local transmission, the return of locally stranded individuals, and overseas Filipino workers.

President Duterte will announce the quarantine classifications starting July 16 on Wednesday.
