DA sets price cap for pork in Metro Manila wet markets

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will implement a maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for pork in Metro Manila wet markets starting March 10, 2025, to address price surges.

The new MSRP will be PHP380 per kilogram for liempo and PHP350 per kilogram for kasim and pigue.

An additional MSRP of PHP400 per kilogram will be set for pork sold by traders to retailers, as prices above this are considered unreasonable.

Pork sold in supermarkets and hypermarkets are exempted from the MSRP due to higher operating costs.

The DA stated that the MSRP was imposed after consultations with industry stakeholders and in response to the challenges faced by the pork industry, particularly the effects of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The MSRP may help ease pork inflation, which saw prices jump by 12.1 percent in February.

There will be a review a month after implementation to assess if adjustments are needed.

The MSRP for pork follows the MSRP for imported rice set in January.
