DA: Over 158,000 farmers, fishers to benefit from P1.1-B fuel subsidy
The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced that over 158,000 farmers and fisherfolk will each receive a PHP3,000 fuel subsidy from a PHP1.1-billion fund to help offset rising oil prices.
Beneficiaries are those registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) who use motorized boats and fuel-consuming machinery.
The subsidy will be distributed through cards from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), which can be used at accredited gasoline stations by presenting a valid ID.
Initially, PHP500 million was allocated for the program, with an additional PHP600 million approved by President Rodrigo Duterte, bringing the total subsidy fund to PHP1.1 billion.
The rollout of the subsidy began in Tacloban last week and is being continuously implemented across regions through the DA and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
