Sufficient rice for P20k program assured
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has assured that the National Food Authority's (NFA) current rice inventory is sufficient to sustain the P20 per kilogram subsidized rice program until the end of the year.
Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa stated that the NFA currently has 400,000 metric tons of rice, equivalent to 250 million kilograms.
The subsidized rice program, initially intended for vulnerable sectors, has recently been expanded to include minimum wage earners.
Qualified beneficiaries can purchase up to 30 kilograms of rice per month under this program.
De Mesa further explained that with an estimated consumption of 1.2 million kilograms per month for the program, the NFA's stock of 250,000 metric tons, with the possibility of additions, can easily meet the demand through December.
