Comelec, BSP ink deal for May 2025 polls source code safekeeping

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) have signed an agreement for the safekeeping of the Final Trusted Build Source Codes for the May 2025 National and Local Elections.

This action ensures compliance with Republic Act No. 8436, as amended by R.A. No. 9369, known as the "Automated Elections System Act."

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that the source codes were deposited with the BSP to ensure transparency and protect the integrity of the electoral process.

The deposited source codes are vital components of the Automated Elections System (AES), encompassing software for the Automated Counting Machine (ACM), Consolidation and Canvassing System (CCS), Election Management System (EMS), Secure Electronic Transmission System (SETS), and Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS).

These source codes, stored in digital media storage devices after undergoing international certification and local review, ensure election accuracy, credibility, transparency, and auditability in all electronic processes.

The source codes from previous elections, including 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2022, remain deposited within the BSP's vaults.
