Comelec finds 31 contractors linked to campaign donations

As of August 30, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified 31 contractors potentially linked to campaign donations for national candidates in the 2022 elections.

Three of these contractors are among the 15 that were awarded flood control projects and had contributed in cash to national candidates during the 2022 elections, according to Comelec Chairman George Garcia.

The Comelec will submit a list of these 31 contractors to the House Committee on Appropriations.

The poll body is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to verify which of the 31 contractors have existing government contracts.

Section 95 of the Omnibus Election Code prohibits government contractors from engaging in partisan political activities and making campaign donations.

The Comelec is prioritizing the review of 2022 election contributions due to a five-year prescriptive period for election offenses.
