Comelec to proclaim winning senators by Sunday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expects to proclaim winning senators and party-lists no later than Sunday, May 15.

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia stated this on Friday, adding that canvassing might be finished the same day as remaining Certificates of Canvass (COCs) are transmitted.

As of Friday, 121 out of 173 COCs have been canvassed.

Comelec Acting spokesman lawyer John Rex Laudiangco previously mentioned that the proclamation of winning senators would precede that of party-list winners.

Special polls were scheduled in 14 barangays in Lanao del Sur, and elections in Shanghai, China, were postponed due to a local lockdown.

The initial voter turnout was estimated at 81%, or about 54 million out of 67 million registered voters.
