Comelec issues show-cause order vs construction exec over P30M donation to Chiz Escudero

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will issue a show-cause order against Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction, regarding a P30 million donation to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero's 2022 senatorial campaign.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that Lubiano must explain the donation and justify why he should not face election offense charges for allegedly violating Section 95 of the Omnibus Election Code.

The poll body's show-cause order was scheduled for release on Thursday, September 11.

Lubiano admitted to making the donation but claimed it was from his personal funds, not from his company.

The Comelec will wait for Lubiano's response before asking Escudero to explain why he should not face an election offense for receiving the donation.

Escudero stated he would comply with any orders and welcomed the opportunity to prove he did not violate the law.
