Comelec deploys ballots early to remote areas in Negros Oriental

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental will be deploying official ballots early to remote areas for the May 12 elections to prevent voter disenfranchisement.

Lawyer Eddie Aba, Comelec-Negros Oriental election supervisor, stated that ballots will be transported to remote areas at least one day before the polls to ensure timely and uninterrupted voting.

This early deployment is also being done to accommodate the special early voting window for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities, which starts at 5 a.m.

Comelec cited potential weather disruptions due to forecasts of heavy rainfall as another reason for the early ballot deployment.

The full shipment of official ballots for Negros Oriental and Siquijor arrived late Thursday night.

The ballots will be under tight security, escorted by police and military personnel during transport.
