Comelec to burn 220,000 defective ballots

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to burn over 220,000 defective ballots in a public ceremony attended by media, political parties, candidates, and citizen's arms.

As of Wednesday, April 6, Commissioner Marlon S. Casquejo reported that the total number of defective ballots has reached 224,087.

Election Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia stated that defective ballots will be burned after printing testing ballots for final testing and sealing, followed by reprinting the defective ones.

Comelec had previously announced the completion of printing 67.4 million ballots for the May 9 elections ahead of the April 25 deadline.

Commissioner Garcia also commented that the second presidential debate demonstrated the candidates' capabilities and qualifications more clearly than the previous one.

Separately, Senator Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares urged Comelec to grant an exemption from the election ban for cash aid distribution to public drivers and operators.
