Comelec receives vote-buying complaints against 17 respondents

At least two vote-buying complaints have been lodged with the Comelec.

Koalisyong Novalenyo Kontra Korapsyon and Alyansa ng mga Mamamayan ng Bagbag filed a joint complaint-affidavit against 17 respondents, including Rose Nono Lin, for 237 counts of vote buying.

The complaint alleges that vote-buying activities by the respondents occurred both before the filing of Lin's Certificate of Candidacy and beyond the official campaign period starting March 25, 2022, and continue to date.

Comelec Commissioner George Erwin Garcia is hoping that more cases will be filed regarding election offenses, expressing gratitude for the evidence-based complaints that allow for due process.

He emphasized the importance of affording respondents the opportunity to be heard, due process, and the presumption of innocence.

Task Force Kontra Bigay, an inter-agency body led by Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, was established to investigate such illegal activities.
