Comelec allocates 64 party-list seats to meet constitutional requirement

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to allocate 64 party-list seats, representing 20 percent of the House of Representatives, aligning with the constitutional requirement.

This recomputation followed a motion by the Philreca Party-list and addresses the current 63-seat allocation being less than the 20 percent threshold.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that the House has acknowledged the Comelec's discretion in this matter.

The Comelec awaits recommendations from its Law Department and Supervisory Committee to fill the 64th seat.

Additionally, four sectoral seats would need to be filled if the Supreme Court affirms the cancellation of the Duterte Youth party-list's registration.

The Comelec also denied a petition to suspend the proclamation of Murang Kuryente party-list's second nominee.
