Comelec to allocate 64 party-list seats

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to allocate 64 party-list seats, representing 20 percent of the House composition, which is in line with the constitutional requirement.

This decision follows a study indicating that 63 seats accounted for only 19.87 percent of the House composition.

The Comelec is awaiting recommendations from its law department and supervisory committee regarding the proclamation of the 64th party-list seat.

If the Supreme Court affirms the cancellation of Duterte Youth's registration, four vacancies in sectoral seats would need to be filled.

In separate developments, the Comelec denied a petition to suspend the proclamation of Murang Kuryente party-list second nominee Noli de Pedro, and the Gabriela party-list group protested at the Comelec's office demanding their immediate proclamation.
