Comelec suspends proclamation of Duterte Youth, BH Bagong Henerasyon party-lists

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has suspended the proclamation of winning party-list groups Duterte Youth and BH Bagong Henerasyon due to pending disqualification petitions.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) resolved to suspend their proclamation pending the speedy and judicious resolution of the petitions.

Garcia clarified that the party-lists have not been disqualified, but their proclamation has been put on hold due to pending cases before the Commission.

He welcomed any move by the groups to challenge the Comelec's decision before the Supreme Court.

Garcia, who did not participate in the decision due to a prior professional relationship with the groups, emphasized that their proclamation is suspended until the cases are resolved.

The Comelec is committed to resolving the complaints before June 30, when proclaimed party-list representatives are expected to assume their seats in Congress.

He added that if the cases are dismissed, the groups will be immediately proclaimed, preventing their mandate from being wasted.
