Comelec says no nationwide failure of elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has not declared any failure of elections nationwide despite various reported issues during the May 9, 2022 polls.

Acting spokesperson Rex Laudiangco stated that the Comelec en banc will be the first to be informed if any such declaration is made.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines recorded at least 15 election-related violence incidents, including shootings and explosions, on election day.

Comelec chairman Saidamen Pangarungan mentioned that these incidents will be forwarded to the en banc, which might take action on the cases.

A failure of elections might be considered in specific voting centers, such as Malabang, Lanao del Sur where a fatal shooting occurred, rather than entire towns.

Over 1,800 vote counting machines (VCMs) malfunctioned, but the Comelec asserts that all these issues have been resolved.

Overseas voting in Shanghai was postponed due to a COVID-19 surge.
