Over 400 vote buying, 'ayuda' complaints filed before May 12 polls
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Committee on Kontra Bigay (CKB) has received 439 reports related to vote-buying, vote-selling, and abuse of state resources (ASR) for the upcoming Eleksyon 2025.
The majority of these reports, 268, involve vote-buying and vote-selling, with 130 concerning ASR and 41 a combination of both.
Common methods observed in vote-buying and vote-selling cases include the distribution of cash, financial aid, and gifts.
Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, and Ilocos Region have recorded the highest number of complaints.
Specifically, Laguna, Marikina, Rizal, Bulacan, and Oriental Mindoro are among the provinces with the most reported incidents.
Commissioner Ernesto Maceda Jr. expects the total number of reports to exceed 450 by the end of the day, noting this is lower than the 1,226 reports received in 2022.
Comelec has implemented stricter measures to combat these electoral offenses, including partnerships with e-wallet applications like GCash and Paymaya to monitor digital transactions.
