27 senatorial aspirants, 26 party-list groups file COCs for Eleksyon 2025

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) commenced the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) on October 1, 2024, for the May 2025 National and Local Elections, with the process set to conclude on October 8.

On the first day, a total of 3,259 aspirants filed their COCs, including 17 senatorial hopefuls and 15 party-list groups.

As of the second day, an additional 10 senatorial aspirants and 11 party-list groups have filed their COCs and Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONAs).

This brings the cumulative total to 27 senatorial aspirants and 26 party-list groups who have filed so far.

Notable senatorial filers on the second day include Senator Imee Marcos, Former Senators Vicente "Tito" Sotto III and Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, and Senator Lito Lapid.

The Comelec also announced the delisting and cancellation of registration for 42 party-list organizations.

Senatorial and party-list aspirants submitted their COCs and CONAs at the Manila Hotel's Tent City, while local aspirants did so at their respective Comelec offices.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia reported no untoward incidents on either day and noted that the number of national candidates filing is normal, expecting an increase.

A total of 18,280 elective posts will be contested in Eleksyon 2025, encompassing national, local, and BARMM parliamentary positions.
