Comelec affirms Eric Yap's proclamation as Benguet rep

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has affirmed the proclamation of Eric Yap as the representative of Benguet's lone district.

This affirmation follows the dismissal of disqualification petitions, including one alleging material misrepresentation regarding his citizenship.

The Comelec's resolution dismissing the petition is immediately executory as no motion for reconsideration was filed and the Supreme Court did not issue a restraining order.

The Provincial Board of Canvassers officially proclaimed Yap on Wednesday, July 2, after the Comelec en banc issued a certificate of finality.

Yap received 144,093 votes, significantly more than his closest rival.

In a statement, Yap expressed relief and thanked everyone involved, urging for cooperation to improve Benguet province.
