Comelec probes 55 contractors for illegal Eleksyon 2022 donations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is investigating 55 contractors for alleged illegal campaign donations made during the Eleksyon 2022.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia confirmed that the probe covers candidates from all positions, including presidential and vice-presidential bets.

Three of the contractors are linked to candidates running for positions higher than senator.

The Comelec's Political Finance and Affairs Department (PFAD) is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to confirm if these contractors held government contracts at the time of their donations.

A representative for Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc., appeared before the Comelec to explain Lubiano's donation to Senator Francis Escudero's campaign.

Senator Escudero will be summoned by the Comelec as part of the investigation.
