Comelec orders Chiz Escudero to explain P30M campaign donation

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a show-cause order to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero regarding a P30 million campaign donation received during the 2022 senatorial elections.

The donation reportedly came from Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc., a contractor with government projects.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed the order was served to Escudero, with a hearing scheduled for October 13, 2025.

Lubiano has admitted to making the donation, stating it came from his personal funds.

The Comelec is investigating potential violations of election laws that prohibit campaign contributions from contractors with government projects.

Escudero expressed readiness to prove that he did not violate any election laws and welcomed the opportunity to address the issue.

If found guilty, both Escudero and Lubiano could face imprisonment and permanent disqualification from holding public office under the Omnibus Election Code.
