Comelec launches threat monitoring center for 2025 polls

The Commission on Elections-led Task Force KKK sa Halalan launched its Threat Monitoring Center to combat fake news and misinformation ahead of the 2025 midterm polls.

Task Force KKK, an acronym for Katotohanan, Katapatan, Katarungan, aims to ensure truthful, honest, and fair elections.

The inter-agency center, housed at the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) office, comprises personnel from Comelec, DICT, CICC, PNP-ACG, NBI, and NICA.

Election watchdogs and major social media platforms like Meta, TikTok, Google, and X are supporting the initiative.

The center will monitor and verify online posts, messages, and malicious AI-generated content that might violate election laws.

Social media companies have pledged to remove content identified as fake news, and analysts will gather reports of disinformation.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Jay Ruiz emphasized the center's crucial role in preventing deception, noting concerns about foreign state-sponsored groups attempting to influence the elections.

Ruiz urged vigilance, stating, 'Lalo tayong mag-ingat dahil eleksyon po ito. Ang pino-protektahan natin dito ay boto ng bawat Pilipino. Magkaisa po tayo, labanan natin ang fake news.'
