Comelec expects 7-day national canvassing for May polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) anticipates the national canvassing for senators and party-list groups in the upcoming May 12 elections to conclude within a maximum of seven days.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that the national canvassing process is estimated to take between five to seven days.

This projected timeline is significantly faster than the nearly month-long canvassing period during manual elections.

In the May 2022 elections, the proclamation of winning senators took nine days, and winning party-list groups were proclaimed after 17 days.

Unofficial voting results are expected to be available on election night itself due to the efficient transmission capabilities of automated counting machines.

Comelec will leverage 5G technology for result transmission, supplemented by Starlink technology in areas with weak signal reception.

Garcia assured the public that fast transmission of election results should be expected.
